2011 Machine Show Review
By Jim Boice, President
The smiling faces pretty well reflects the attitude of our exhibitors, vendors, and staff at our annual show on June 11th and 12th 2011. The intermittent rain on Saturday tried to discourage us, but failed to dampens people's spirits.
The total number of exhibitors was up from last year. There was a number of engines with impliments performing tasks as they did a century ago. There was an operating shingle mill, vertical log spiltter and water pumps. We even has two large engines that were never at our show before: a 10 HP International Harvester and a 15 HP Reid 2 Cycle engine.
Vendors were on hand to market tools, machinery-related supplies, and models of old cars, trucks, and tractors.
The motorcycle "Wall of Death", located at the north end of the race track drew many people into the proximity of our displays, Intrigued by something different, many of them found their way through the machinery show. As seen by their intelligent questions, cycle enthusiasts have a good appreciation of mechanical devices and old machinery.
Antique tractors and old pickup trucks were interspersed throughout the showgrounds. There was even an army tank and "The Shovel Back Band". These kept the spectators pointingand running, amazed by themachinery that was in front of them.
The show's sucess is due in a large measure of the number of volunteers who rendered their time and services before, during, and after the show. We had enough people to "cover the bases" but more is always better. Thank you toall those who contributed in so many ways!
Next years show will be held June 8th and 9th 2012. This will be a Friday and Saturday Show.
