Rhinebeck wasn't Rainbeck
by Reed Benton

Despite dire forecasts to the contrary, rain fell on Rhinebeck only during the night time hours of June 11th to14th. This enabled our show set-up crew to work their magic on Thursday afternoon and "early bird" exhibitors to set up on Friday afternoon and early eveing. By 9PM Friday, the show field was more than half full-a harbinger of a good weekend to follow. Thankfully, the weathermen's prognostications proved to be "lies" and Rhinebeck did not become "Rainbeck".

The weekend witnessed lots of spectators, new exhibitors/exhibits and vendors for the 32nd annual Antique Machinery, Truck and Motorcycle Show.
A tool supplier and a hobby related T-Shirt and Hat Distributor were some of the new vendors. Several new engines also showed up, including Jim Boice Sr.'s 6HP Fairbanks-Morse engine and winch setup. Not to be out done , Jim, Jr. ran his recently aqquired 6HP Accociated engine. Reed Benton also had another small Fuller & Johnson engine running for the first time.

The Mid-Hudson Chapter of the ATCA showed up with many old trucks. A total of 30 old trucks were on display with several being newcomers to the show. A group of antique tractors complemented the trucks including a rare "8-16" IHC Mogul Tractor.

At the Blacksmith Shop, 6 craftsman fashioned items of art and utilityat a"hammer in". Visitor flow was good through the Museum though the curators said more volunteer interpreters were needed.

Well known artist and CMVCA member Bill Holland, set up a canopy housing with many of his fine watercolors of farm & country scenes. Bill again graciously donated a painting for a raffle to benefit the CMVCA.

Saturday's activities concluded with a Bar-B-Que for Association Members who exhibited and/or worked. About 70 mouths were fed and, most left watering for a repeat 2010. Thanks and compliments go to the director, Amy Boice, who made  all the arrangements.

Many thanks are in order to those who worked hard tomake the show a sucess. The show is indeed growing in numbers and quality!
